Photographs in the Sound Archive Images

The Kirklees Sound Archive includes over 700 interviews recording the oral history of Kirklees and its inhabitants. From the beginning the archive collected photographs and other materials related to the interviews.

The Sound Archive was set up in 1985 by Kirklees Metropolitan Council, with help from the Manpower Services Commission. The archive was established with the aim of recording the spoken memories of the people of Kirklees.

The photographs alone capture the working life, family life, new arrivals and old traditions of Kirklees. No editing is done: the memories, views and opinions expressed are those of the people interviewed.
